Why Blacrex exists
It started with something I kept seeing in small companies.
Every year, when audit season came near, the same scene repeated. The company would bring someone in — sometimes an agency, sometimes a person hired just for this — to walk through the office and the factory floor with a scanner, stand in front of every chair, computer, printer and machine, and record it. Then all of it would be typed into an Excel sheet. The sheet would be emailed around, corrected, broken, and re-made from scratch the next year — and by the time the auditor asked a simple question like “where is this machine now, and who had it before?”, nobody could answer from the sheet.
The companies that outgrew Excel had one place to go: asset management software priced in dollars — hundreds of them, every year. And what did that money buy? A place to hold the list. Just assets, nothing else. Software priced like it was built for a bank, doing a job a notebook was doing badly.
So a small business was paying twice — once for expensive software that only stored a list, and once for a person to walk around building that list — for a record that is not even optional. The fixed asset register is one of the first things an auditor asks for, and the depreciation in the books is supposed to come from it.
That felt backwards to me. And it felt like something I could fix.
So I built the version I believed should exist:
The whole year around the register, not just the list
Who holds each asset and who had it before. What broke and who repaired it. What was purchased, which licence expires when, what is due for maintenance. Custody, helpdesk, procurement, licences, maintenance — every module on every plan, including the free one, with no limit on assets or people.
The yearly count without the hired person
The walk-around is done with the phone already in your pocket — scan the label, the register updates, and the verification report builds itself as you go.
Honest pricing, the opposite way around
The register is free forever — not a trial, not a teaser. You pay only for the two artefacts a business actually needs at year-end: the Schedule II depreciation schedule for the audit file and the TallyPrime export for the books — ₹24,999 a year, or ₹49,999 above 500 assets in use. You can read your full depreciation schedule on screen before paying a rupee, so you never buy figures you have not seen. Nothing renews automatically, and we hold no card on file.
Who is behind it
Blacrex is built and run by Debasish Panda — an independent Indian software business, registered as an MSME (UDYAM-WB-14-0307000) and based in Kolkata. It is deliberately small: no sales team, no call centre — the person who built the product reads every support email.
